Role Overview

We are seeking a Group Health, Safety & Environmental (EHS) Manager to lead and drive Neptune Pacific's EHS strategy across New Zealand and the Pacific region. This position involves hands-on leadership to partner with operational teams to enhance safety culture, manage risks effectively, and nurture operational excellence through continuous learning.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement a unified Group EHS Strategy to achieve consistent health, safety, and environmental standards across all sites in New Zealand and the Pacific.
• Transform the safety approach from mere compliance to a learning-based culture focused on Human & Organisational Performance (HOP) and critical risk management.
• Maintain and evolve the Group EHS Management System, encompassing policies, governance, assurance activities, and performance tracking.
• Collaborate closely with Country Managers and site leadership to embed ownership of risk within operational functions, providing expert guidance and support.
• Oversee the Critical Risk Management program to ensure identification, verification, and enforcement of controls for high-risk hazards.
• Lead investigations into major incidents and Potential Serious Injury and Fatality (PSIF) events to promote organizational learning and implement sustainable corrective measures.
• Build leadership competencies through coaching, training, safety dialogues, and on-the-ground engagement at all organizational levels.
• Manage Group-wide assurance efforts including audits, risk assessments, critical control validations, and governance reporting.
• Keep abreast of legislative and regulatory changes across multiple jurisdictions and ensure the company maintains compliance standards.
• Lead and develop the EHS team to foster capability, consistency, and a culture focused on continuous improvement.
• Utilize data analytics to identify trends, assess risks, and guide informed decision-making with measurable outcomes.
• Develop and maintain strong partnerships with customers, contractors, suppliers, and industry stakeholders to promote a safe and sustainable supply chain.

Qualifications and Experience

• A relevant tertiary qualification is highly preferred, complemented by a strong commitment to purposeful leadership.
• Proven ability to be a safety advocate who leads by example and successfully cultivates a safety-first culture in multi-site environments.
• Resilient and driven personality comfortable managing complex challenges under pressure.
• Exceptional communication and influencing skills to engage stakeholders at all levels effectively.
• Extensive leadership experience in senior EHS roles within logistics, transport, or other high-risk industries.
• Certified in ICAM or equivalent incident investigation techniques with confidence in guiding impactful investigations.
• Passionate about continuous improvement, consistently challenging existing processes to enhance safety and efficiency.
• Strong analytical capabilities to analyze data, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions for lasting results.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook to support communication and reporting.

• This is a permanent full-time position based in Auckland, New Zealand.

• Occasional travel within New Zealand and Pacific Islands is expected.
