About the Role
GFL Environmental Inc. is looking for a responsible and hardworking General Labourer to join their team in Squamish, British Columbia. This full-time, onsite role involves various manual and operational duties essential to maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.
Primary Responsibilities
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of work sites.
- Refuel vehicles and equipment as needed.
- Clean tracks on track-type machinery and similar equipment.
- Perform yard duties such as mowing lawns and collecting litter.
- Operate general site vehicles and tools including water trucks, pickups, sweepers, mowers, and trimming apparatus.
- Adhere strictly to company safety policies along with applicable federal, provincial, and local safety regulations.
- Conduct routine office maintenance tasks like painting and janitorial work.
- Manage and direct vehicle traffic on site where necessary.
- Carry out any additional duties assigned by management.
Required Qualifications and Abilities
- High school diploma or GED is preferred but not mandatory.
- Ability to meet the company’s safety-sensitive role criteria.
- Competent in reading, writing, basic math, and clear communication.
- Capable of following instructions and working with minimal supervision.
- Proficient in operating equipment relevant to job functions.
- Strong problem-solving skills utilizing practical reasoning.
Physical and Mental Requirements
- Capable of standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting outdoors approximately 90% of the time.
- Uses hands and fingers, and is able to kneel, crawl, talk, hear, climb, and maintain balance.
- Visual capabilities include close and distance vision, color and peripheral awareness, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
- Able to lift manually up to 65 pounds regularly and push/move loads up to 100 pounds with assistance.
Working Conditions
- Exposure to loud noises, varying weather conditions including humidity, rain, storms, extreme heat, and cold depending on the season.
- Interaction with moving mechanical parts, vibrations, toxic and caustic substances, fumes, and airborne particles.
- Work performed mostly outdoors, up to 100% of the time.
- Consistent travel throughout the day away from the branch location.
- Occasional work at elevated and precarious places.
- Regular presence in motor vehicle traffic and generally noisy environments.
