Fruit Farm Worker

Overview

This position involves working directly on-site in outdoor agricultural conditions at Dorenberg Orchards Ltd in Lake Country, British Columbia. The role focuses on the cultivation and maintenance of perennial crops such as apples and other orchard fruits, including vineyards.

Languages

Applicants should be proficient in English or French.

Education and Experience

No formal degrees, certificates, or diplomas are required. Candidates should have between 1 to less than 7 months of relevant experience.

Work Environment

• Physical presence at the farm is mandatory as remote work is not possible.
• Work conditions include exposure to outdoors, viticulture activities, heights, odors, dusty and noisy environments, varying weather, heat, and physical dirtiness.
• Accommodation for staff is available on-site.

Responsibilities

• Manage and promote healthy growth of vines, vine canopy, and grapes.
• Harvest row and orchard crops including picking and planting.
• Cultivate, irrigate, and maintain crops.
• Manually remove suckers and water sprouts; tie and secure plants for optimal growth.
• Train and direct tree growth to produce high-quality fruit.
• Perform routine weeding and general care of crops.
• Operate, maintain, and handle farm machinery and hand tools as needed.

Additional Requirements and Physical Demands

• Must be capable of independent work in a fast-paced environment with repetitive and physically demanding tasks.
• Work requires manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, ability to distinguish colors, and attention to detail.
• Physical activities involve standing for long periods, bending, crouching, kneeling, walking, and handling loads up to 23 kg (50 lbs).
• Must perform reliably under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and handle a large workload.
