Job description
About the Role
A seed-stage tax advisory technology company is building the modern operating system for the German tax advisory industry. The company acquires established accounting and tax firms and transforms them with an AI-powered platform — automating workflows, centralising support services, and enabling advisors to focus on high-value client work.
As Founding Engineer – Product & Process, you'll be responsible for turning real-world tax advisory work into executable, scalable systems. You'll own the full journey from rapid prototype to hardened production workflow, and directly shape how work flows across acquired firms. This is a high-ownership, deeply technical role at the intersection of product thinking, process design, and backend engineering.
What You'll Do
Analyse workflows across accounting, payroll, reporting, and client communication to surface bottlenecks, handovers, failure modes, and unnecessary manual steps.
Rapidly design and build MEPs/MVPs to automate and validate workflows.
Implement workflow orchestration systems using tools such as n8n, Temporal, or custom backend services.
Collaborate in tight feedback loops with tax advisors and engineers to ensure solutions are grounded in domain reality.
Own the full transition from prototype → hardened, production-grade workflow.
Make deliberate decisions about when a UI is genuinely needed — and when it's just an implementation detail.
What We're Looking For
Required:
Experience with tax/advisory or professional services workflows — you understand (or are excited to deeply learn) the domain of tax and accounting processes.
Based in Berlin, Germany, or willing to relocate to work from the Berlin office.
Strongly valued:
Significant experience designing and shipping workflow-heavy or automation-driven systems.
Hands-on familiarity with workflow orchestration tools: n8n, Temporal, or similar.
Strong CS fundamentals paired with a product-minded, deeply technical approach.
Comfort with ambiguity and end-to-end ownership — you prototype fast and harden deliberately.
Enjoys close collaboration with non-engineering domain experts.
Location & Work Arrangement
Location: Berlin, Germany (on-site)
Visa sponsorship: Not available — candidates must have existing authorisation to work in Germany.
Compensation & Benefits
Compensation details were not provided for this listing. This is an early founding-team role at a seed-stage company — expect meaningful responsibility, direct impact, and equity upside commensurate with the seniority and stage.
