Role Overview

The EHS Specialist is responsible for reinforcing the safety culture at the Castlebar and Swinford sites and ensuring the business remains aligned with Environmental, Health & Safety requirements. The role brings technical EHS expertise, supports important programs, and works with different teams to improve safety results, environmental care, and risk control.

Key Responsibilities

  • Keep EHS policies, procedures, and site programmes up to date and continuously improved.
  • Ensure the sites comply with applicable national and local EHS laws, corporate expectations, and ISO-based management systems.
  • Offer specialist guidance on regulatory matters to site leadership, engineering, operations, and support functions.
  • Help prepare, review, and submit EHS reports for regulatory, corporate, and facility needs.
  • Support the management of hazardous and non-hazardous waste, including vendor coordination and compliance with waste rules.
  • Assess the environmental effects of new processes, equipment, and projects, and assist with environmental permitting.
  • Carry out audits and help drive corrective actions where needed.
  • Ensure equipment, tasks, chemicals, and ergonomic risks are identified, assessed, and controlled.
  • Review EHS impacts linked to changes in equipment, processes, or facility layouts.
  • Perform inspections, GEMBA walks, and internal audits to confirm compliance and find opportunities for improvement.
  • Lead or assist with incident investigations, including root-cause analysis and the rollout of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Support the Emergency Response Team programme through training, drills, and preparedness activities.
  • Encourage ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement through communication, coaching, and EHS awareness initiatives.
  • Track and report EHS KPIs to keep performance trends and progress visible.
  • Contribute to EHS improvement projects that support site and corporate goals.
  • Take part in cross-functional improvement teams.
  • Record, monitor, and promote EHS observations to improve hazard awareness and reduce risk.

Requirements

  • A third-level qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Health & Safety, or another related EHS field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in an EHS position within manufacturing or a similarly regulated setting.
  • Hands-on experience supporting or managing EHS programmes, including risk assessments, training, and compliance work.
  • Knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving ability, with confidence influencing stakeholders at different levels.
  • Ability to work independently, manage several priorities, and deliver against deadlines.
