Role Summary

As a Data Science Intern, you will collaborate with the Applied Machine Learning and DataQA teams to analyze and understand challenges in vehicle parts workflows. You will be mentored by experienced professionals while working directly with real-world, complex data. The role combines elements of data science, domain expertise, and product analysis to investigate difficulties in parts validation, ordering, automatching, and variant management, measuring frequency and impact of these problems.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze actual parts data to help decipher problems affecting validation and ordering processes.
• Break down broad issues into measurable categories and quantify their occurrence.
• Estimate accuracy and failure rates across various makes, providers, and part groups using SQL, Python, sampling, and internal tools.
• Translate analyses into actionable insights for Applied ML, Product, and DataQA teams.
• Contribute to building scripts, simple dashboards, and review workflows for clearer understanding of parts issues.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced, low-bureaucracy environment.
• Ensure reproducibility, clear documentation, and thoughtful inquiry in all work outputs.

Candidate Profile

• Currently studying or recently graduated in data science, statistics, computer science, mathematics, engineering, or related fields with strong analytical thinking.
• Experience with SQL and Python for data querying and analysis; comfort in hands-on data work is essential.
• Strong problem decomposition skills to dissect complex questions into manageable parts.
• Curious mindset eager to understand underlying causes beyond surface-level data.
• Effective communication skills to explain findings, solicit feedback, and ask questions.
• Motivated to learn continuously, own professional growth, and tackle challenging real-world problems.
• Bonus: Exposure to classification tasks, data quality evaluation, entity matching, catalog or automotive data, or collaboration with ML or human-in-the-loop systems.
