Position summary
This full-time custodial role is based in Bolivar, Tennessee, with service at the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services in Hardeman County. The work is performed on site. The starting monthly pay range is $2,135.00 to $3,195.00, which equals an annual range of $25,620.00 to $38,340.00.

Role overview
Under close supervision, this position carries out standard custodial duties and other related tasks as needed. It is the entry-level working classification in the Custodial Worker series. The role may require assignment to any shift while providing cleaning services across facilities. It differs from Custodial Worker 2 because that level serves as a lead custodian.
Key duties
- Use custodial tools and equipment such as floor washing machines, buffers, and vacuum cleaners.
- Move furniture as needed.
- Clean floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, stripping, waxing, and buffing, either manually or with machines.
- Sanitize restrooms, including showers, toilets, sinks, floors, walls, mirrors, and trash containers.
- Clean offices, hospital areas, state park inns and cabins, or other facilities by dusting, vacuuming, shampooing carpets, washing windows and walls, emptying waste, and tidying workspaces.
- Keep outdoor areas free of litter and note any maintenance concerns.
- Maintain simple records and prepare routine reports about facility issues and needed supplies.
- Perform light maintenance on the equipment used in the job.

No formal education or prior work experience is required for this position.
Competencies, knowledge, and tools
The job calls for sound decision-making, comfort with changing or unclear situations, conflict management, interpersonal awareness, and a proactive work style. It also requires knowledge of cleaning practices, time management, observation, and basic equipment care. Physical abilities important to the role include coordination, whole-body strength, and speech recognition.
Common tools and equipment used include a floor buffer, vacuum cleaner or vacuum caddy, riding floor scrubber, wet and dust mops, and a window squeegee.
Driver requirements
If driving is part of the assignment, applicants must hold a valid driver's license. Over the last five years, the driving record must not show DUI, reckless driving, a suspension for moving violations, or more than four moving violations. Driver's license information should be entered in the Licenses and Certifications section of the application. The agency may allow an exception depending on other factors.
