Job description

About EQ Bank

EQ Bank is reshaping the banking landscape for nearly 4 million Canadians by providing innovative, faster, and connected financial services including banking, lending, trust, and credit union solutions. Established in 1970, it continuously challenges conventional banking approaches with a focus on smarter and more customer-centric experiences.

Job Purpose

The Credit Risk Intern will work under the guidance of the Senior Manager of Credit Risk alongside a team of Analysts, Associates, and Managers. While this position does not hold decision-making authority, it is essential for delivering precise analyses, ensuring data accuracy, and following the bank's internal risk management and governance protocols. The role supports understanding risks at both transaction and portfolio levels and aids in maintaining robust credit risk practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Organize electronic documents, leveraging technology for optimization.
  • Support the development and automation of electronic document management solutions.
  • Contribute to process enhancements and document procedure updates.
  • Assist Credit Risk departments, including Retail Lending Quality Assurance, in deploying AI tools for improved functions, organizing inputs, testing scenarios, and documenting results.
  • Identify potential AI applications to enhance efficiency, reporting, or analysis within credit risk workflows.
  • Participate in basic experimentation and learning of AI-enabled processes with guidance from risk and data partners.

Candidate Profile

  • Current enrolment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Management Information Systems, Library and Information Science, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Between 3 months and 1 year of experience with Microsoft SharePoint, PowerShell, Power Automate, Python, and/or SQL.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a systematic approach to technological and process-based challenges.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook and familiarity with applying AI to organizational and automation tasks.
  • Detail-oriented mindset and excellent organizational skills capable of multitasking and meeting deadlines.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Work Environment & Culture

The credit risk sector is dynamic, influenced by market fluctuations, borrower behavior, and regulatory changes. This role requires adaptability, inquisitiveness, and critical thinking to contribute to analyses that support informed risk decisions. Interns will be expected to learn quickly, inquire proactively, and balance precision with timely outputs.

Additional Information

  • This position involves hybrid work with onsite requirements at EQ Bank’s Toronto office located at 2200-25 Ontario Street.
  • The bank offers a comprehensive benefits package for full-time roles including competitive bonuses, RRSP matching, health benefits, employee share purchase plans, parental leave top-ups, extensive vacation and personal days, virtual social events, and professional development programs.
  • EQ Bank promotes equity, diversity, and inclusion, providing a barrier-free recruitment process and accommodations to ensure all candidates can perform at their best.

  • The recruitment process uses AI to assist in screening and assessment, but all decisions are verified by human recruiters.
