Commis I - Culinary Position at JW Marriott, Doha

Position Overview

JW Marriott in Doha, Qatar, is seeking a dedicated Commis I to join our culinary team at the Conference Centre Street location in West Bay. This full-time role involves preparing specialty meals and substitutes, carefully monitoring cooking equipment temperatures, thawing frozen ingredients, and maintaining proper food presentation, portioning and garnishing according to established standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain and regulate temperatures of ovens, grills, broilers, and roasters to ensure food quality.
• Manage food thawing processes by transferring items from freezer to refrigerator storage.
• Ensure portions, arrangements, and garnishes meet preparation checklists and presentation guidelines.
• Monitor food quality and quantity consistently, logging pertinent details.
• Communicate needs for assistance during peak business periods and inform chefs of surplus ingredients for potential daily specials.
• Keep Food & Beverage service teams updated on menu specials and stock availability.
• Prepare both hot and cold dishes in line with recipes, quality, and presentation standards.
• Assist management with hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating, and coaching kitchen staff to foster a motivated and efficient team.
• Adhere to safety and security protocols, reporting any maintenance, accident, or unsafe condition promptly.
• Maintain professional appearance and confidentiality of company information.
• Anticipate guests’ needs, communicate clearly, and cultivate positive teamwork.
• Perform physical tasks including standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 25 pounds, and other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Qualifications

• Technical, trade, or vocational school diploma preferred.
• A minimum of three years' relevant culinary work experience is required.
• No prior supervisory experience necessary.
• No specific licenses or certifications required.
