Job description
Position Summary
The City of Andalusia is seeking to appoint a Code Compliance Officer to join the Planning and Development department. This role operates under the oversight of the Director and Assistant Director of Planning and Development. The officer is charged with enforcing municipal, state, and federal regulations concerning public safety, property upkeep, sanitation, health, building codes, and abatement processes. Responsibilities include inspecting conditions on-site and assisting community members including homeowners, tenants, and businesses in understanding relevant regulations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct inspections of residential, commercial, industrial properties, and vacant lots to ensure compliance with codes.
- Investigate approved conditional uses of properties and issue notices of violations as necessary.
- Respond to inquiries and complaints from citizens regarding code compliance issues.
- Work independently with discretion, utilizing knowledge of city policies and procedures.
- Be available to serve in a police capacity during emergencies and special events on an as-needed basis.
Qualifications
- Completion of high school education or its equivalent.
- Possession of an Alabama Peace Officer’s Standards and Training Commission certification.
- Valid Alabama driver's license issued by the Alabama Department of Public Safety.
- Ability to obtain Property Maintenance Inspector certification from an accredited program within 24 months of hire.
- Willingness to work irregular hours including weekends and holidays.
- Capability to recertify in firearms on a biannual schedule.
