Role Overview

This newly established Chief Technology Officer position reports directly to the founder of a privately held, tech-enabled trading company based in Sydney with an expanding international presence. The role entails full and autonomous responsibility for product and technology, including oversight of product, engineering, data, and systems, within a rapidly growing company. The CEO expects a collaborative partner rather than a subordinate.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct a thorough, honest evaluation of the current technology stack to identify technical debt and develop a remediation plan.
• Define and execute the product vision and roadmap for a live Contract for Difference (CFD) trading platform, proprietary trading infrastructure, and an emerging digital asset vertical.
• Transition the business model so product design inherently drives customer retention, moving away from reliance on customer service.
• Improve engineering performance by establishing measurable delivery schedules, sprint protocols, and reliable product health frameworks for leadership oversight.
• Implement a structured intake and prioritization process to safeguard engineering teams from unplanned business interruptions.
• Build the product and tech foundation for a new cryptocurrency vertical aimed at generating major revenue within two to three years.
• Recruit, develop, and retain talented engineers and product managers across multiple expanding business units.

Candidate Profile

• A proven product leader with substantial engineering expertise, or an engineering leader with strong product understanding, capable of operating effectively across both disciplines.
• Experience managing product and engineering for multiple teams or business units simultaneously, rather than a single group.
• Ability to critically assess a complex and imperfect technology landscape and make decisive improvements without requiring approvals.
• Skilled stakeholder management to maintain engineering focus while aligning business priorities.
• Background in fintech, online trading, CFD or forex platforms, digital assets, or other dynamic high-volume digital sectors.
• Proven success working in fast-growth or scale-up companies undergoing substantial revenue growth rather than steady expansion.
• Comfortable with ambiguity and energized by creating structure in unstructured environments.
