Buyside Equity Research Analyst

Role Overview

An institutional broking firm is seeking a Buy-Side Equity Research Analyst in Chennai. The position calls for someone with solid research instincts, strong analytical ability, and advanced financial modelling skills to help generate investment ideas and support decisions on listed Indian equities.

The work will focus on detailed company study, sector tracking, and converting research into actionable investment inputs. Applicants with direct buy-side research experience will be given preference, along with those who have a strong background in sell-side equity research.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out deep fundamental analysis of listed companies across multiple sectors.
• Develop and update financial models, valuation tools, and investment tracking sheets.
• Draft investment memos, earnings commentary, and stock recommendation reports.
• Review annual reports, investor presentations, earnings call transcripts, and other industry updates.
• Monitor portfolio companies and stay on top of major operational and financial changes.
• Use data-backed research to support investment decisions and idea generation.
• Join management meetings, channel checks, and sector-level studies when needed.

Candidate Profile

• Prior experience in either buy-side or sell-side equity research is desirable.
• Strong grasp of financial statements, accounting concepts, and valuation methods is essential.
• Hands-on capability in financial modelling and investment analysis is required.
• Should demonstrate sharp analytical thinking and sound business judgment.
• Good communication and presentation abilities are important.
• Interest in public market investing and long-term company analysis is expected.

Education

A CFA, CA, MBA in Finance, or a similar qualification is preferred.
