Supply Chain Team

The Supply Chain team at Rocket Lab manages the entire flow of materials, products, and components essential to our operations. Handling critical components integral to our missions and our clients', they facilitate assembly kit preparation for technicians assembling Electron rockets, inventory management, shipping, receiving, procurement, inspection, and compliance to standards—forming the vital chain linking all teams for mission success.

Role Overview - Buyer I

Based at our global headquarters in Long Beach, CA, the Buyer is responsible for placing purchase orders essential to Rocket Lab. This role focuses on sourcing all raw materials, including aluminum, composites, and 3D printed materials, supporting engineering R&D during production growth. Daily decisions directly influence cost control, quality, and timely delivery of materials.

Key Responsibilities

• Source materials by carefully assessing vendor capabilities, pricing, delivery schedules, and performance metrics.
• Ensure materials are delivered to Rocket Lab punctually.
• Manage vendor relationships for assigned suppliers.
• Conduct Request for Quote (RFQ) processes to obtain competitive bids and achieve best pricing.
• Collaborate closely with engineering teams to fulfill procurement needs and serve as the main contact for R&D order tracking.
• Provide material planners with purchase order updates and expected arrival dates.
• Negotiate supplier agreements to satisfy quality, cost, and delivery standards.
• Maintain and update purchase order records within the ERP system.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Business Management, or related field.
• Demonstrated skill in sourcing, onboarding, and negotiating pricing with suppliers.
• Comprehensive knowledge of purchasing procedures.
• Willingness and ability to undertake up to 10% domestic and international travel.

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Experience as a Buyer, Manufacturing Engineer, or similar role.
• Proficiency with Material Requirements Planning (MRP) systems.
• Background in aerospace, automotive, or innovative manufacturing sectors.
• Experience in fast-paced, high growth organizations.
• Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
• Familiarity with AS9100 standards and U.S. export control regulations.
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Team-oriented with capacity to multitask under deadlines and fast-moving environments.

• Physical ability to sit, use hands and fingers, operate keyboards, and communicate verbally and in writing.
• Capability to commute to workplace buildings.
