Role Overview
As one of the earliest team members, you will be responsible for shaping and delivering Helios' entire brand identity and experience across all touchpoints. This role focuses on creation and execution rather than management, encompassing brand system development, website and app design, physical product art direction, report design, and marketing creative. Collaborating closely with founders and engineers, you will craft a cohesive, compelling brand that inspires trust and converts visitors into customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and document the visual brand system including typography, color, layout, motion, voice, and photography to ensure consistent and recognizable identity even without the logo.
- Design and optimize marketing websites and landing pages with a focus on converting visitors into customers using data-driven testing and iteration.
- Own the user experience and interface design of web and mobile apps, ensuring seamless and coherent interaction across platforms in collaboration with engineering.
- Create the product report that clearly and beautifully presents complex biomarker data for easy comprehension and action by members.
- Art-direct physical branding elements such as test kits, packaging, and product displays to deliver a distinctive unboxing experience.
- Produce live, shippable design assets rapidly, leveraging AI tools responsibly to enhance quality without compromising taste or accuracy.
- Develop marketing creatives—both static and video—for Helios and its consumer brand Roon, iterating frequently to maximize engagement and ROI.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Demonstrable portfolio of consumer-facing designs that have been shipped and resulted in measurable commercial success.
- Mastery of visual design fundamentals including typography, color theory, and spacing, with clear rationale for creative choices.
- Proven ability to improve key metrics such as landing page conversion or app retention through design.
- Expertise in product design including mapping user flows, defining states, and organizing information hierarchy beyond surface branding.
- Capability to independently produce functioning websites and app prototypes at a fast pace.
- Competence in front-end development sufficient to deliver live pages using preferred tools.
- Self-directed, able to transform vague briefs into completed, live products without extensive supervision.
- Comfortable working amid ambiguity and defining quality standards from the ground up.
- Experience with performance marketing creatives, iterating on static and video content weekly based on analytics.
- Formal education in design, human-computer interaction, fine arts or equivalent self-taught experience with a strong portfolio.
Preferred Additional Experience
- Experience in health, science, or other industries requiring trusted communications.
- Skills in motion graphics, 3D design, or photography art direction.
- Packaging design or physical product branding expertise.
- Background in direct-to-consumer performance creative campaigns.
