Role Overview
We seek an experienced professional to take ownership of Planet’s virtual desktop platform utilizing Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD). The position involves maintaining secure and efficient remote and contractor work environments by managing Azure Virtual Desktop components such as host pools, golden images, user profiles, scaling strategies, and continuous monitoring via Azure Monitor to ensure a reliable, cost-effective, and secure virtual desktop infrastructure aligned with PCI DSS standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and operate all aspects of Azure Virtual Desktop including host pools, session hosts, workspaces, and application groups.
- Create and maintain standardized golden images and associated pipelines to ensure consistent and updated desktops.
- Design and optimize FSLogix profile containers and user data infrastructure for swift and reliable sign-in experiences.
- Configure autoscaling and capacity management to balance system performance, availability, and financial efficiency within Azure.
- Monitor sessions and user experience proactively using Azure Monitor and Log Analytics, tuning performance as needed.
- Implement security measures such as system hardening, Conditional Access, and network controls compliant with PCI DSS and organizational standards.
- Manage application deployment to AVD environments utilizing MSIX app attach and Intune to maintain optimal desktop experiences.
- Automate deployment and operational processes through scripting (PowerShell) and infrastructure-as-code technologies (Bicep, ARM, Terraform).
- Serve as the highest level of technical escalation for AVD incidents and problems, driving resolutions and permanent improvements.
Candidate Profile
- Extensive practical experience in engineering Azure Virtual Desktop components, including host pools and application groups.
- Proven ability in building and managing golden images, including image pipeline development and patch application.
- Expertise in FSLogix profile containers and related user data management.
- Knowledge of autoscaling, capacity planning, and managing Azure spend related to AVD environments.
- Competence in monitoring virtual desktop performance through Azure Monitor and Log Analytics.
- Strong foundational understanding of Azure networking, storage, role-based access control, and Conditional Access policies.
- Advanced scripting skills in PowerShell and infrastructure automation using Bicep, ARM templates, or Terraform.
- Experience delivering and managing applications in virtualized desktop infrastructures using MSIX app attach and Microsoft Intune.
- Familiarity with regulated environments, ITIL change management processes, and beneficial to hold Azure AZ-140 certification.
