Role Overview
The Assistant Designer for Graphics will support the development of original, engaging graphic elements and artwork for Indigo's products, packaging, and internal projects. Collaborating closely with senior packaging and graphic designers, this position helps to maintain a strong, consistent brand presence that captivates and inspires our customers. From concept to production approval, the role involves hands-on design execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Support design and creation of compelling graphics, typography, and artwork for proprietary products, packaging, and various initiatives as assigned.
- Work alongside design leads on original concepts aligned with project goals and brand visual guidelines.
- Manage graphic and artwork processes from initial creation through final product, including resizing, reformatting, packaging, typography, and artwork adjustments for private brand and hybrid packaging projects.
- Research and propose stock illustrations and patterns when needed; retouch and modify purchased imagery to align with seasonal concepts and the brand’s aesthetics.
- Stay informed on emerging trends to ensure Indigo’s visuals meet the highest standards in design quality and content.
- Prioritize and manage creative requests to meet deadlines effectively.
- Collaborate flexibly with colleagues to develop innovative solutions.
- Share technical expertise and seek continuous learning opportunities.
- Reflect Indigo’s values in all behaviors and interactions, embracing diversity and fostering a culture of learning and risk-taking.
Key Performance Metrics
- Timely and specification-compliant delivery of all graphics and artwork.
- Contribution to creative development.
- High satisfaction levels among cross-functional partners and internal customers.
Reporting and Key Relationships
- Reports directly to the Director of Design.
- Manager Once Removed is VP, Product Design.
- Collaborates internally with the Design Studio, Global Sourcing, and General Merchandise teams.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in graphic design or related discipline.
- At least one year of experience in retail design is preferred.
Competencies and Skills
- Robust understanding of graphic design principles, page layout, and typography.
- Proficiency in graphic software including Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Procreate.
- Strong conceptualization and creativity.
- Self-driven with a passion for graphic design.
- Dynamic and motivated team player, open to constructive feedback.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills, adept at handling multiple projects with shifting deadlines.
- Experience with branding and package design is an advantage.
