About University of Toronto Asset Management (UTAM)
UTAM manages the University of Toronto’s endowment and short-term working capital investments. It is a collaborative and high-performing organization dedicated to generating value for the university through global investments across multiple asset classes, guided by responsible investing principles.
Position Overview
The Analyst, Investment Operations role is a full-time permanent position based in Toronto, ON, with current hybrid work options. The position reports temporarily to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and is a key member of a three-person team responsible for portfolio transaction instruction, cash and margin oversight, monthly book closing, custodian oversight, client financial reporting, audit support, and related operational activities—all under strict control standards ensuring timeliness, accuracy, and completeness.
Responsibilities
- Generate and verify transaction instructions for custodial and accounting purposes.
- Reconcile instructions against custodian records to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Maintain cash projection data to effectively manage liquidity needs across portfolios.
- Track deposits and cash-equivalent investments diligently.
- Monitor and manage margin balances for futures trading programs.
- Retrieve and process statements and estimated returns from pooled fund administrators.
- Participate actively in the monthly accounting book closing process.
- Foster strong working relationships and collaboration with other internal teams.
- Perform other duties and ad hoc projects as required.
Candidate Requirements
- At least 2 years of experience in fund accounting or investment operations, especially relating to pooled funds, swaps, futures, and currency forwards.
- Undergraduate degree in business, finance, accounting, or related fields.
- Progress towards or a commitment to pursuing CPA or CFA designations is highly desirable.
- Advanced Excel skills and aptitude for learning other analytical tools.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively utilize artificial intelligence to enhance operational processes by automating repetitive tasks and reinforcing controls.

Compensation and Benefits
A competitive salary package ranging from $65000 to $80000 annually commensurate with qualifications and experience. Additional incentive plans are offered but vary based on calculation methods and are not included in this range. Benefits include a defined-benefit pension plan along with financial support and paid leave for CPA or CFA designation completion.
