Job description

Overview

The Aircraft Washer role entails cleaning aircraft and their components using a high-pressure wash system, along with applying lubrication before and after washes.

Key Duties

  • Install and remove protective aircraft covers.
  • Move aircraft using towing and ground support equipment.
  • Operate portable firefighting equipment as necessary.
  • Prepare aircraft for washing, including taping vent areas and ensuring covers are secured.
  • Clean and rinse both internal and external aircraft surfaces to eliminate contaminants like grease, dirt, oil, fungus, and stains.
  • Maintain and use the high-pressure washing apparatus.
  • Polish windscreens and canopies using water, compounds, and cloths.
  • Execute pre- and post-wash lubrication following established procedures.
  • Adhere to Foreign Object Damage (FOD), hazardous waste, and tool control protocols.
  • Observe all relevant safety and industrial regulations as per contract and site requirements.
  • Obtain and maintain necessary licenses for operating government or company-owned ground support equipment.
  • Use two-way communication devices when required.
  • Perform additional qualified tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or GED.
  • At least three months of experience in aviation maintenance or flight line operations.
  • Ability to meet all government and company licensing, certification, and clearance needs.
  • Physical capacity for prolonged sitting, standing, and walking.
  • Capability to frequently climb, bend, squat, kneel, lift up to 70 pounds, push, and pull.
  • Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination.
  • Visual acuity including close, color, peripheral, and depth perception, with focus adjustment ability.
  • Normal hearing ability.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, understanding, and communicating in English, and following verbal and written directions.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Willingness to work all assigned shifts and schedules.

Preferred Experience

  • Familiarity with operational safety standards around aircraft and ground support equipment.
  • Ability to understand written and spoken instructions for aircraft cleaning machinery.

Working Conditions

  • Possible use of respirators.
  • Exposure to varied environments ranging from controlled shop settings to harsh weather conditions including extreme temperatures, wind, rain, and direct sunlight.
  • Potential for high noise levels.
  • Obligation to wear protective clothing and safety gear in extreme temperature conditions.
  • Exposure to high-intensity noise, temperature extremes, materials listed on Safety Data Sheets, and machinery around aircraft.
  • Work locations include flight lines, hangars, and maintenance facilities.
  • Operation of aircraft ground support equipment such as vehicles, tugs, tractors, and high-pressure wash systems is required.
