About the Role
As a Utility Worker at Sodexo's Oakwood University location in Huntsville, AL, you will contribute to kitchen and facility operations by ensuring cleanliness, sanitation, and organization throughout food preparation and service areas. This role supports overall operational efficiency by maintaining equipment, utensils, floors, walls, and storage spaces in excellent condition. You'll also manage supplies and assist with setup and breakdown tasks as required.
Work Schedule and Pay
This position offers afternoon and evening shifts with varying days, details to be shared during interviews. Employment types available include both full-time and part-time. The compensation ranges between $15 and $17 per hour. Note that university students with restricted working hours, including international students, should consider student worker positions at their own institutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Manually washing dishes or utilizing dishwashing machines.
- Cleaning and sanitizing worktables, walls, refrigerators, and meat blocks.
- Performing floor care including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and general cleaning.
- Disposing of trash and garbage in designated receptacles.
- Maintaining equipment cleanliness using appropriate chemical agents to meet sanitary guidelines.
- Replenishing supplies such as soap, paper towels, and cleaning materials.
- Engaging in significant walking or mobility throughout shifts.
- Standing or walking for long durations, potentially exceeding eight hours per shift.
- Frequently bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 35 pounds regularly and occasionally moving weights up to 50 pounds.
- Adhering to scheduled shift times and maintaining consistent attendance.
- Performing other assigned duties that may vary depending on specific business and client needs.
Qualifications
- High School diploma, GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- No prior work experience required.
- Basic understanding of sanitation processes and foundational food safety principles.
