Job Overview

The Trainee Screener will play a critical role ensuring the safe and efficient screening of hold baggage to comply with regulatory standards and to detect any prohibited, dangerous, or security-threatening items. Responsibilities include operating specialized screening equipment, documenting findings, coordinating with security personnel, and maintaining professionalism in all interactions.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Participate and successfully complete all required regulatory training programs.
  • Operate X-BIS equipment to analyze baggage images for detection of dangerous goods, prohibited articles, weapons, or ammunition following Avsec guidelines and SOPs.
  • Carry out physical baggage inspection and Explosive Trace Detection (ETD) tests when triggered by screening.
  • Maintain excellent Threat Image Projection (TIP) scores reflecting strong image interpretation skills.
  • Comply fully with BCAS and DGCA aviation security directives during baggage handling and inspections.
  • Document and report all screening findings to satisfy audit and inspection standards.
  • Perform routine pre-operational checks and maintenance on X-BIS, ETD, CT-EDS, and other screening devices, reporting malfunctions promptly.
  • Collaborate closely with CISF, airline staff, and other personnel for physical inspections and managing suspicious items.
  • Update supervisors concerning ongoing screening operations or emerging issues requiring intervention.
  • Balance speed and thoroughness to ensure timely baggage screening without compromising security.
  • Uphold professional conduct and organizational standards, contributing positively to the team’s work environment.

Key Internal and External Stakeholders

  • Internal: CSO, Lead Avsec Audit & Compliance, Pass Section, ILHBS Leads, Terminal Operations, IT, HR, Compliance Teams, other Airport Departments.
  • External: Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Aircraft Operators, Airport Authorities, Passengers, ASG, BCAS, Local Police, Service Providers, Law Enforcement Agencies, Regulatory Bodies, Industry Associations.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum education: High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Mandatory TSA certification.
  • Desirable certifications: BCAS basic AVSEC course, BCAS standalone/inline screeners, DGCA-approved DGR CAT 12 certification.
  • NCC “B” or “C” certificate holders will be favored.
  • Eligibility for freshers or candidates with up to 2 years in security screening or related fields, ideally in airport environments.
  • Experience with operating security screening equipment and understanding security protocols is beneficial.

Physical and Sensory Requirements

  • Visual acuity: 20/60 or better in both eyes without corrective lenses, or 20/20 in one eye and 20/30 in the other with glasses/contact lenses.
  • Color perception adequate for the role.
  • Hearing loss less than 30 dB in each ear for frequencies below 2000 Hz.
  • Clear verbal communication abilities and no significant speech impediment.
  • Ability to detect odors is required.
  • Must demonstrate professional deportment, appearance, and conduct, providing courteous interaction with the public.
