Job description
Role Overview
The Therapy Assistant provides crucial support to Occupational Therapists or Physiotherapists by assisting with therapy sessions, client preparation, and maintaining thorough documentation. This role ensures that clients receive effective rehabilitative care and that therapy environments remain organized and sterile.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with OTs/PTs to deliver individual or group therapy sessions at the centre as prescribed.
- Aid in therapeutic procedures such as ambulation, gait training, exercises, and muscle re-education using mobility aids and equipment.
- Prepare clients for therapy treatments and set up necessary apparatus.
- Supervise clients practicing exercises during therapist absence and monitor treatments like heat or electrotherapy.
- Create splints and pressure garments under professional guidance.
- Measure clients’ blood pressure and temperature before exercises.
- Monitor clients’ mobility and promptly inform nursing staff or therapists about any irregularities.
- Ensure client safety throughout therapy sessions.
- Keep detailed and current records of treatments and case notes.
- Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of therapy areas and equipment, including changing linens and cleaning tools.
- Manage inventory for therapy and domestic supplies and assist with ordering stock.
- Assess and document client therapy needs, progress, and reviews on a quarterly basis.
- Assist with meal and drink service and feeding patients as needed.
- Provide escort services for patients between their homes and the care centre.
Qualifications
- Possession of WSQ Certificate in Therapy Support is mandatory.
