Technical Office Engineer

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Shop Drawing Engineer to join a major hospital construction project team based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in creating, reviewing, and coordinating multidisciplinary shop drawings, ensuring alignment with design documents and construction requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare, develop, and review detailed shop drawings consistent with project criteria and approved design documents.
• Analyze IFC drawings, contract documents, technical specifications, and project requisites prior to producing shop drawings.
• Create coordination drawings involving multiple disciplines to ensure seamless integration.
• Detect design discrepancies and collaborate with design and site teams to resolve conflicts.
• Produce builder's work and opening drawings as needed.
• Manage and update as-built drawings throughout the project until completion.
• Coordinate with construction teams to reflect site realities in drawings.
• Assist consultants and clients in approval workflows and promptly address feedback.
• Work closely with BIM teams to maintain consistency between BIM models and construction drawings.
• Review material submittals for adherence to approved documents and specifications.
• Offer technical advice and solutions to construction groups.
• Ensure rigorous drawing document control, revisions, and distribution.
• Report periodically on drawing status, approvals, and coordination progress.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Architectural, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
• Active membership in the Saudi Council of Engineers.
• At least 10 years of professional exposure to shop drawing preparation for construction projects.
• Minimum of 7 years experience on hospital or healthcare facility construction projects.
• Demonstrated proficiency in coordinating multidisciplinary shop drawings within BIM-enabled environments.
• Experienced in liaising with consultants and clients to secure drawing approvals and handle technical submissions.

Technical Knowledge

• In-depth understanding of the Saudi Building Code and Ministry of Health requirements for healthcare facilities.
• Expertise in shop drawings, coordination drawings, builder’s work, opening drawings, and as-built documentation.
• Competence in reviewing material submittals, method statements, and RFIs.
• Strong skills in interpreting design drawings, technical specifications, and managing document control and revision processes.
• Knowledge of BIM workflows and ISO 19650 standards.

BIM and Digital Construction Experience

• Advanced experience with BIM-enabled construction projects, including coordinating architectural, structural, MEP, HVAC, fire protection, and medical system models.
• Familiarity with clash detection and working within common data environments.
• Proficiency managing digital engineering models and documentation throughout project stages.

Software Proficiency

• Design and drafting: AutoCAD, Autodesk Revit (Architecture, Structure & MEP), Autodesk Navisworks Manage, Autodesk Civil 3D.
• BIM coordination and document management tools: Autodesk Construction Cloud, BIM Collaborate Pro, Autodesk Docs, BIM 360, Oracle Aconex, Bluebeam Revu.
• Design visualization: SketchUp Pro, Enscape or Lumion (preferred for presentations).
• General productivity: Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

• Background in implementing digital engineering workflows and document management systems.

Location

This role is based onsite in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
