Job description

About the Company

Purpose Bureau is a rapidly expanding company that operates at the intersection of ESG data, research, and technology. The firm helps organizations understand, evaluate, and manage sustainability risks and performance throughout their supply chains, delivering high-quality insights in this dynamic sector.

About the Role

We are seeking an ESG Analyst with a keen eye for detail and a strong commitment to quality assurance, alongside a sincere interest in sustainability. This role is ideal for candidates with around 1 to 2 years’ experience in data analyst or operations roles who enjoy resolving ambiguous data issues and elevating data integrity. The candidate will be expected to independently identify and resolve problems, proactively flag concerns, and continuously strive to improve processes rather than merely report problems. Prior ESG expertise is not mandatory; what counts most is analytical rigor, attention to detail, comfort with data, a proactive attitude, and eagerness to learn in a fast-paced setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Validate supplier data by verifying legal entities, industry classifications, and corporate group relationships, utilizing databases, research instruments, and predefined workflows.
  • Perform initial quality assurance on emissions data by comparing submissions against expected thresholds and spotting anomalies like unusual year-over-year variations, extreme intensity values, and deviations from sector norms.
  • Undertake preliminary QA evaluations of ESG rating outputs related to climate and social risks, escalating unusual findings with clear justifications and suggested solutions to senior staff.
  • Clean, prepare, and standardize client spending data by formatting, removing duplicates, and aligning country information.
  • Manage routine data processing cycles and handle spontaneous client requests within agreed timelines, proactively highlighting potential schedule risks.
  • Document data findings, inconsistencies, and suggested next steps clearly for senior review.
  • Identify persistent data quality and workflow problems and propose actionable improvements rather than mere symptoms.
  • Contribute to the enhancement of internal procedures, quality controls, and workflows as the company scales.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Between one and two years of relevant experience in data analysis, data operations, or similar roles requiring hands-on data management.
  • High proficiency in Excel, including capabilities in data transformation and cleansing.
  • Experience with Power Query or the aptitude to quickly adapt to new software tools.
  • Strong attention to detail with a proven ability to detect data inconsistencies.
  • Comfortable using technological and automation tools to assist research, verification, and quality control while applying critical thinking to ensure accuracy.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills addressing root causes and proposing feasible solutions.
  • A proactive approach, willing to raise concerns early and identify opportunities for improvement without waiting for instructions.
  • Ability to work efficiently and accurately under tight deadlines while staying well-organized.
  • Competent in exercising reasonable judgment when data is incomplete or ambiguous.
  • Strong written communication skills, especially in reporting data issues and recommendations.
  • Capability to swiftly learn new systems, workflows, and ESG-related knowledge in a changing work environment.
  • Dependable and accountable, ensuring tasks are fully completed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of ESG, sustainability, or supply chain concepts.
  • Background in entity matching, data cleansing, or other data quality-related activities.
  • Experience with quality assurance processes, exception management, or structured research workflows.

Compensation

Salary and benefits will be discussed during the interview phase.

Equal Opportunity

Purpose Bureau strives for workplace diversity and is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified candidates will be considered regardless of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, or any legally protected status.
