Role Overview

The Support Worker position involves assisting individuals across all facets of daily life, emphasizing their capabilities while promoting skill development and independence. This role includes helping people achieve personal outcomes and actively engage in community life through inclusive, innovative approaches. The worker also handles personal care duties including meal preparation, household chores, personal hygiene, and supporting wellbeing throughout the day.

Work Location and Schedule

The job is based at Caislean Adult Services in Oranmore and Galway City. Staff may be assigned to residential, respite, day, or community services, with possible location changes based on evolving needs. The commitment is 78 hours biweekly averaging a 5-day workweek, primarily Monday to Friday but flexibility for weekend or extended hours between 8 am and 8 pm is essential to meet service demands.

Qualifications and Skills Required

• General good education is necessary; possessing a recognized intellectual disability qualification (FETAC Level 5 or QQI Level 5 or higher) is preferred.
• A clean, full manual driving license eligible for Irish roads is mandatory, with support available to acquire a Class D1 license if needed.
• Previous experience with people with intellectual disabilities, autism, or complex needs is advantageous but not mandatory, as training will be provided.
• Personal qualities such as flexibility, teamwork, patience, and a good sense of humor are important.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English and IT skills is essential.

Compensation and Benefits

• Salary range from €34,881 to €47,624 yearly based on Department of Health scales effective 01/06/2026, prorated for part-time.
• Long Service Increment of €48,434 annually after three years at maximum scale, also prorated.
• Additional pay for weekend shifts, public holidays, sleep-ins, and night duties.
• Annual leave of 23 days per year, pro-rated for part-time roles.
• Pensionable employment with the possibility of increment credits for prior public sector service.

Employment Details and Conditions

• Permanent full-time posts available; a panel may be formed to fill various permanent, temporary, or fixed-term roles over six months.
• A probation period of nine months applies with possible termination if unsuitable or extension at employer’s discretion.
