What the job involves
In this role, you will oversee family visits in a secure setting, observe interactions, monitor safety and behavior, and prepare detailed written reports. Those reports may be used to help decide whether reunification is appropriate and may also be relied on in court.
The work calls for an understanding of child development, family relationships, and social services. You will need strong communication skills, sound judgment, objectivity, and the ability to keep all client information strictly confidential.

Visits are arranged around the schedules of children and families, so flexibility is essential. Shifts are typically short and may fall on days, evenings, and weekends. The minimum shift length is 3 hours. There are no overnight or 24-hour shifts.
If transportation is needed for a visit, taxi travel will be arranged and paid for by the program. Report-writing time is also compensated. Training will be provided, and on-call support is available during visitation hours.
Pay and employment terms
The hourly wage is $20.30, in line with the collective agreement. This is a unionized role covered by the NL Association of Public and Private Employees (NAPE).
Required background
Applicants should have experience in a related field working with children and youth, along with a Record of Conduct and Vulnerable Sector Check, a valid First Aid Certificate, and a Medical Certificate confirming good health. The medical documentation must include a negative TB test and an up-to-date immunization record.
Additional details
This position is focused on protecting children and supporting family connections in a supervised setting. The work requires discretion, consistency, and the ability to make balanced observations in sensitive situations.
