SSVF Case Manager

About the Role

The Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) Case Manager position is located in Renton, WA, at YWCA Seattle King Snohomish. This full-time, on-site role involves working with homeless and formerly homeless Veterans and their families. The goal is to assist these families in obtaining and maintaining stable and affordable permanent housing by providing effective case management and establishing partnerships with landlords and social service providers.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct outreach across King County to identify and engage homeless or formerly homeless Veterans and their families, connecting them with veteran benefits and health or human services.
• Provide guidance and resources to secure housing and support housing stability.
• Build and maintain relationships with landlords and property managers.
• Meet with applicants to assess eligibility and assist with application procedures alongside the Outreach/Intake Specialist.
• Collaborate with community social service organizations to coordinate supportive services.
• Evaluate client family strengths and challenges to develop individualized housing stability plans and goal-setting strategies.
• Offer or facilitate life skills training and support as necessary.
• Make referrals to services like chemical dependency treatment, mental health counseling, and domestic violence advocacy.
• Perform home visits to monitor and support housing stability.
• Maintain thorough and accurate documentation of all case management activities.
• Regularly meet with SSVF team members to ensure client and program success.
• Attend meetings and public functions related to the SSVF program and human services.
• Assist with administrative tasks including reporting and record keeping.
• Engage respectfully and effectively with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, promoting social justice.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in social services or related field, or at least three years’ experience working with low-income individuals or families and/or persons with disabilities, particularly veterans.
• Familiarity with veteran services and experience in crisis intervention and case management.
• Background working with homeless individuals or families and understanding of family dynamics.
• Experience supporting persons dealing with chemical dependency, mental health challenges, and domestic violence.
• Knowledge of King County housing resources, landlord/tenant laws, and fair housing regulations.
• Ability to travel independently throughout King County.
• Works well both independently and as part of a team.

Compensation and Benefits

• Hourly wage of $28.00.
• Full-time schedule at 40 hours per week.
• Comprehensive benefits package including medical insurance, retirement plans, vacation, holiday, and sick leave.
• Optional enrollment in Fidelity 403(b) Plan at hire.
• Eligibility for the YWCA Retirement Fund after two years of employment.

Physical Requirements

• Frequent communication requiring listening and speaking with clients, providers, and community members.
• Regular standing, walking, sitting, and occasional climbing within office and off-site settings.
• Hand use for telephones, computers, fax machines, and office equipment.
• Lift and carry documents up to 5 lbs regularly, occasionally up to 40 lbs.
• Close work involving reading, filing, and computer usage.
• Occasional physical movement such as kneeling, bending, pushing, and pulling.
• Standing for extended periods during trainings or events.

Mental Health Considerations

The role involves interaction with clients who have experienced trauma including racial trauma, domestic and sexual violence, homelessness, and financial hardship. Secondary trauma is a risk; employees are encouraged to pursue support and maintain self-care.
