Primary Role

The role involves comprehensive responsibility for detailed engineering design, calculations, and specifications concerning telecommunication configurations and equipment used on offshore oil and gas platforms. The candidate must competently review and validate engineering documentation prepared by third parties, providing informed recommendations aligned with overall design requirements.

Experience in overseeing and approving Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and Site Acceptance Tests (SATs) related to instrumentation is advantageous.

Core Responsibilities

• Design and specify telecommunication systems including digital microwave radios, fiber optic cables (including submarine cables), VSAT satellite systems, auxiliary radios (HF SSB, VHF/UHF), AM NDB systems, RACON, trunk radio, public address and alarm systems, and CCTV setups used in offshore oil and gas operations.
• Apply relevant codes, standards, and best practices (such as CCITT, CCIR, ISA, ANSI, AGA, IEC) for design and installation of telecommunications systems.
• Coordinate telecommunication design and development for new projects and modifications to existing infrastructure, providing advice during construction and equipment installation ensuring adherence to specifications and standards.
• Offer professional guidance on equipment and material selection for new installations and replacements within existing setups.
• Uphold and communicate the organization's vision, mission, and values by setting practical objectives for oneself and team members.
• Operate within the established Quality Assurance frameworks.
• Maintain strict personal safety standards and work in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety protocols.
• Incorporate Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) considerations in design processes with an emphasis on process safety and best practices.

Expertise and Knowledge

• Comprehensive understanding of engineering codes and standards applicable to instrumentation design and installation (e.g., API, ISA, ANSI, AGA, ISO, IEC).
• Deep knowledge of selecting appropriate equipment and materials for new and replacement installations.
• Substantial experience in designing microprocessor-based systems such as SCADA/DCS, Emergency Shutdown (ESD), IPS Fire & Gas Detection, Fire Protection, Metering, and Wellhead Control Panels (WHCP).
• Proven leadership and technical expertise in telecommunications within the oil and gas or similar industry, including managing multidisciplinary teams and projects.

Qualifications and Accreditation

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering from an accredited university.
• Mandatory Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) engineering accreditation; candidates without must be willing to obtain it during probation.
• Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status or progression towards it is advantageous.
