Position Overview
We are recruiting a Senior Software Engineer to join our Disputes technology team based in Dublin, Ireland working in a hybrid mode (three days onsite weekly). This role demands significant expertise in developing and evolving end-to-end dispute lifecycle systems. The engineer will focus on constructing scalable, reliable, and secure platforms supporting critical financial workflows, ensuring high availability, regulatory adherence, and an excellent user experience.
The role prioritizes system design and software architecture proficiency above routine coding tasks. You will translate complex business needs into robust, maintainable technical solutions by applying established software design patterns and architectural strategies within distributed systems.
Key responsibilities include designing and upgrading backend services, APIs, workflows, and event-driven components for dispute initiation, handling workflow progress, resolution, and arbitration. Collaborating with Product, Architecture, and Platform teams, the successful candidate will contribute to technical designs, code reviews, and system scalability, maintainability, observability, and operational resilience.
You will champion modern engineering methodologies like CI/CD, automated testing, DevOps, and operational excellence, while also troubleshooting production incidents, conducting root cause analyses, and driving continual enhancements to system stability and design.
Technical Skills and Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have strong proficiency with Java (Spring Boot) or equivalent backend technologies and deep knowledge of software architecture and distributed systems. Essential competencies include creating microservices, event-driven architectures, and large-scale enterprise platforms.
- Solid understanding of software engineering principles and design patterns including Domain-Driven Design, SOLID principles, event-driven architecture, CQRS and Event Sourcing, workflow and state machine patterns, integration patterns, resilience, and fault-tolerance.
- Expertise in API-first design and cloud-native architectures.
- Significant experience building RESTful APIs, working with relational and NoSQL databases, and developing highly available systems.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, container orchestration using Kubernetes, observability, and monitoring practices is beneficial.
- An openness to adopt AI-powered tools like GitHub Copilot, Claude, or Cursor during software development to enhance productivity and solution quality is expected, with a focus on architectural validation and refinement of AI-generated code.
- You must demonstrate the ability to work independently with strong ownership and accountability within complex distributed environments, communicate effectively, and collaborate across teams.
Educational Requirements
A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related discipline, or equivalent practical experience is mandatory.
