Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET)

About the Role

We are seeking a seasoned Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to join our Quality Engineering team at Altimetrik. The candidate will leverage strong programming abilities alongside expertise in test automation and API testing to develop automation frameworks and improve software quality. This role involves collaboration with development, product, and DevOps teams to ensure quality delivery through sustainable automation solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable automation frameworks for web, API, and microservices testing.
• Develop automated test scripts primarily using Java and modern tools.
• Implement REST API automation utilizing frameworks like Rest Assured.
• Create reusable libraries to optimize automation efforts.
• Integrate automation suites into CI/CD pipelines for continuous testing.
• Conduct functional, regression, integration, and end-to-end testing cycles.
• Analyze bug patterns, root cause identification, and work with development teams for resolution.
• Review and ensure compliance with automation code standards.
• Mentor junior QA automation engineers and promote best practices.
• Participate actively in Agile processes such as sprint planning and daily stand-ups.
• Drive improvements in automation coverage, execution speed, and process quality.

Required Technical Skills

• Strong proficiency in Java and object-oriented programming concepts including collections, exception handling, and multithreading.
• Experience with automation tools such as Selenium WebDriver and preferably Playwright or Cypress.
• Knowledge of testing frameworks like TestNG and JUnit alongside design patterns such as Page Object Model.
• Expertise in hybrid, data-driven, and keyword-driven test automation frameworks.
• Expertise in REST API testing using Rest Assured, Postman, and handling JSON/XML formats.
• Proficiency in SQL and working with databases like Oracle, MySQL, or PostgreSQL.
• Familiarity with build tools like Maven or Gradle and version control systems including Git and platforms like GitHub or Bitbucket.
• Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, and ideally GitLab CI.
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes (preferred), and foundational knowledge of cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Additional skills include microservices testing, Kafka or messaging systems, Linux/Unix command-line skills, performance testing tools such as JMeter, and Agile/Scrum development methodology.

Preferred Skills

• Hands-on experience with Playwright automation.
• Mobile automation experience using Appium.
• Knowledge of BDD frameworks like Cucumber.
• Abilities in contract testing, service virtualization, and use of monitoring tools such as Splunk, Grafana, or Prometheus.
• Experience with SonarQube and security testing.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or similar disciplines.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Proven ability to function efficiently in fast-paced Agile teams.
• Between 7 to 12 years of relevant experience in QA Automation or as an SDET.
• Experience developing automation frameworks independently from ground up.
• In-depth understanding of software testing methodologies, SDLC and STLC.
• Practical exposure to CI/CD pipelines and the principles of DevOps.
• Knowledge of microservices architecture and excellent stakeholder management skills.
• Demonstrated mentorship and leadership capabilities in driving automation efforts.

Work Location: Hyderabad, India (Other locations include Bangalore, Chennai, Pune)
