Position Summary
The Security Guard role supports the University's housing community by ensuring the safety and protection of residents and property. Responsibilities include conducting patrols, enforcing policies, and engaging with students and staff with professionalism and respect. This role requires attention to detail and a commitment to upholding security standards across residential areas.
Work Schedule and Conditions
This is a full-time position with working hours from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., Thursday through Monday, including weekends, with Tuesdays and Wednesdays off. The role involves outdoor work in various weather conditions and requires walking extensive distances during shifts.
Key Duties
- Perform regular foot patrols around assigned residential communities, inspecting buildings and grounds for safety hazards such as unlocked doors, fire risks, and suspicious activity.
- Provide safe walking escorts for students and vehicle transportation for staff when requested.
- Respond to security incidents by documenting events accurately, operating body-worn cameras, and collaborating with campus police when necessary.
- Maintain thorough and professional reports, complete required training, and conduct monthly safety equipment inspections in residence halls.
- Participate in special events coverage including holidays, breaks, football games, and residence hall move-ins.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or its equivalent is required.
- Minimum of two years of relevant experience in security or a related field.
- Ability to write clear and accurate reports.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Competence in learning and using security equipment and body camera technology.
- Calm and composed demeanor in stressful situations, balancing security protocols with customer service.
- Valid driver's license is necessary as driving is part of job responsibilities.

Compensation and Benefits
The annual salary for this position is advertised as $45,000. The position is benefit eligible and participates in the Teachers Retirement System (TRS). The role is classified as non-exempt with an FTE of 1.0.
