Overview

Join The AA as a Roadside Rescue Mechanic and help drivers get moving again when breakdowns or other roadside issues interrupt their journey. In this role, you’ll represent one of the UK’s best-known motoring organisations and provide reassuring, practical help in all kinds of weather and at any time of day.

Pay and working pattern

The base salary for this position is £38,270 per year, with total on-target earnings of up to £60,000 for top performers. You’ll work an average 40-hour week. A range of shift options is available, and you can choose a pattern that better fits your personal and professional needs. Your rest days and shift length will depend on the option you select.

What you’ll do

• Start and end your workday from home, with paid time counted from the moment you leave in your van until you return.
• Work on your own across different locations and conditions while still being part of a supportive team.
• Use your technical expertise and strong communication skills to deliver a positive experience for members.
• Troubleshoot problems at the roadside and apply a calm, practical approach to a broad range of breakdown situations.

What you need

• An NVQ Level 3 in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, or an equivalent qualification backed by relevant experience.
• A full category B driving licence with no more than 6 points.
• Confidence with technology and a willingness to adapt to new tools and systems.
• Availability for flexible shift work, including evenings, weekends, and Bank Holidays.
