Role Overview
As a Road Planer Operator, you will handle machines including W35ri, W100F, W210Xf/Fi, and W250Xf/Fi to perform detailed milling and surface preparation tasks that require exceptional accuracy. The role demands genuine hands-on experience and entails UK-wide travel to specialized sites. Comprehensive training and site inductions are provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate various road planers with precise adherence to project specifications
- Travel across the UK to diverse sites such as airports, defence locations, and infrastructure projects
- Perform fine milling tasks emphasizing precision over speed
- Adhere strictly to safety protocols within live traffic management and high-security zones
- Conduct daily inspections and basic servicing of equipment
- Optionally undertake HGV driving duties for additional remuneration if licensed
Candidate Profile
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
- Minimum of one year proven experience operating road planers
- NVQ Level 2 in road planing or equivalent qualification, such as a valid NPORS planer card
- Willingness to work primarily night shifts
- Ability to travel nationwide and stay away from home as necessary
- Capability to pass a DBS check required for certain contracts
Desirable but Not Required:
- Holding an HGV Class 1 or 2 licence
- SSSTS certification
- Background in surface milling or specialist paving
Compensation and Benefits
- Daily pay rates of £175 for day shifts and £215 for night shifts
- Additional incentives include night out payments, stand down allowances, weekend uplifts, and site-specific bonuses up to £100 per shift
- Average operator earnings approximate £60,000 yearly; those with HGV licences may earn over £100,000 annually
