Division Overview

The Advisory and Programme Delivery (APD) unit provides management services across sectors including Built Environment, Defence, Energy, Water, Transportation, Education, Health, and Care. The Ireland APD team is growing, with offices in Belfast, Dublin, Cork, and Galway, staffed by skilled project/programme managers, planners, commercial managers, and quantity surveyors.

The transportation group leads and delivers wide-ranging transportation projects spanning Aviation, Highways, Rail, and Maritime sectors. By integrating project, programme and commercial management expertise, we partner deeply with clients to leverage Mott MacDonald’s global engineering and consultancy excellence. Our goal is to become a leading and trusted provider for major transportation projects internationally.

Role Overview

Reporting to the Senior Quantity Surveyor, the Quantity Surveyor will assist in commercial management across various transportation projects. Responsibilities include managing budgets, reporting monthly financial variances, risk management, dispute resolution, commercial strategy guidance, subcontractor evaluation, assessment of compensation claims and monthly payments, conducting commercial audits, and mentoring junior staff.

Candidate Profile

Essential qualifications and skills:

  • Degree-level education preferred
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within teams
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities, including report writing and presentations
  • Capability to build and sustain effective relationships with clients, colleagues, stakeholders, and supply chains
  • Adaptable approach to work demands and flexibility to travel to client locations and other company offices

Desirable experience and qualifications:

  • Full Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors Membership (MRICS) or working towards it
  • Experience in cost planning within cost consultancy or multidisciplinary contexts
  • Familiarity with contract administration, cost estimation and NEC contracts
  • Previous involvement in transportation or highways projects is advantageous
