Role Summary

We are hiring a proficient Python Developer with expertise in Apache Kafka to develop, maintain, and optimize scalable, high-throughput data processing and event-driven back-end applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend systems utilizing Python.
• Create and support real-time streaming and event-driven applications leveraging Apache Kafka.
• Develop Kafka components including producers, consumers, and stream-processing applications.
• Implement microservices architectures and ensure application scalability, reliability, and performance.
• Develop RESTful APIs and integrate with external systems.
• Identify and resolve production issues through thorough root cause analysis.
• Collaborate with architects, DevOps engineers, QA, and business stakeholders for seamless project delivery.

Required Skills and Technologies

• Advanced programming skills in Python and Object-Oriented Programming principles.
• Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and backend development frameworks such as Flask, FastAPI, or Django.
• Expertise with messaging and streaming platforms, particularly Apache Kafka, Kafka Connect, Kafka Streams, and Schema Registry.
• Experience with event-driven architecture design.
• Proficiency in creating and consuming REST APIs with JSON/XML.
• Familiarity with relational and NoSQL databases including PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, and preferably Redis.
• Understanding of DevOps practices, continuous integration/deployment pipelines using tools like Git, Jenkins, GitHub Actions.
• Containerization and orchestration experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform and managed Kafka services (MSK, Confluent Cloud).
• Bonus skills: Confluent Kafka Platform, Apache Spark Streaming, Airflow, ELK Stack, Terraform, and data engineering concepts.
• Experience with distributed systems and handling high-volume transaction processing is highly desirable.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline is required. Candidates should have demonstrable experience designing scalable distributed applications and microservices, combined with a comprehensive understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), Agile methodologies, and DevOps best practices.

Compensation and Benefits

This full-time role based in Ontario offers a salary range between $78,000 and $98,000, dependent on the candidate’s experience, skill level, and location. Employees accrue at least 10 days of paid vacation annually, along with 6 paid sick days (pro-rated for new hires), paid holidays, bereavement leave, and jury duty leave.

Eligible employees and their dependents residing in Canada receive supplemental healthcare coverage and company-paid basic life insurance along with accidental death and dismemberment coverage. Sick leave benefits comply with local regulations.
