About the Role

This role involves delivering efficient, effective, and equitable psychological services to support children and young people with additional learning needs, aligned with the Ministry of Education's objectives. Two full-time positions are available in Christchurch: one permanent and one fixed-term.

Key Responsibilities

• Utilize a strengths-focused method to understand learner needs.
• Identify factors affecting learning, wellbeing, and behavior patterns.
• Promote inclusive practices in early learning centers, schools, kura, and other educational environments.
• Work collaboratively to support progress toward learner goals.
• Offer professional guidance to educational staff and families; contribute to planning and implementing intervention strategies.
• Assess, analyze, hypothesize, and collaboratively develop, support, and monitor intervention plans for individual or group students with additional learning needs.

Experience and Qualifications

• Experience working within a complex organization structure.
• Skilled in building relationships and partnerships to achieve common goals.
• Experience supporting children, young people, and their whānau across varied settings.
• Proven aptitude in counseling, negotiation, mediation, and contract management.
• Ability to analyze data and insights to detect trends, risks, and opportunities, influencing decisions at organizational and system levels.
• Hold a full driver's license as travel is expected.
• Master's degree coupled with a Post-graduate Diploma in Educational or Clinical Psychology or equivalent.
• Registered Psychologist in New Zealand under the Health Practitioners Competency Assurance Act with a current practicing certificate.
• Commitment to Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.

Team Background

Te Mahau takiwā offers leadership and integrated educational services that enhance participation and learning by removing barriers. The team supports regulatory advice and oversight for early learning providers, schools, and kura.

Additional Details

• Salary ranges from $85,916 to $126,500 per annum plus KiwiSaver contributions; appointment salary will match skills and experience.
