Prototype Formulation Technologist

Role overview

This position sits within the Formulation Team at the Technical Centre of No7 Beauty Company, where the focus is on developing innovative beauty formulations that balance scientific rigour with creative thinking. The role is part of a fixed-term contract lasting 9 months.

As a Prototype Formulation Technologist, you will lead early-stage formulation development that supports the brand’s strategic direction. You will create technology and complete formulation solutions for use across different franchises, working closely with internal and external partners to ensure the outputs meet consumer needs, category objectives, and brand expectations. This role reports to the Prototype Formulation Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Own formulation work that supports new product development and existing product development plans, ensuring delivery against consumer, category, and brand priorities.
• Apply strong technical and laboratory expertise to strengthen the innovation and formulation pipeline, improve product specifications, question assumptions, and shape sound product design decisions.
• Ensure all formulations meet global requirements for regulatory compliance, quality, and safety.
• Carry out laboratory manufacturing and testing for formulations developed internally by No7 Beauty Company.
• Contribute to the planning and preparation of prototype consumer studies.

What you need

• A bachelor’s degree in Cosmetic Science, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Relevant industry experience in formulation.
• The ability to use technical expertise to solve problems and identify opportunities that improve consumer value.
• A scientific approach grounded in sound principles and an ability to use that approach to resolve problems and generate new ideas.
• Experience designing, running, and documenting experiments and scientific investigations.
• The ability to explain specialist technical information clearly to different audiences.
• A solid understanding of the value chain and manufacturing processes.
• Strong knowledge of multiple formulation technologies, raw materials, and technical IP requirements within the applicable regulatory and legislative environment.
• Experience managing personal timelines and priorities while working effectively within cross-functional teams.
• An agile, growth-oriented mindset.

Nice to have

• Completion of the Society of Cosmetic Scientists Diploma in Cosmetic Science.
• Experience with patent searches.
• Awareness of the cosmetics regulatory environment.
• Experience formulating facial skincare products, including UV protection.

Additional information

This role is based in Greater Nottingham and is described as onsite. The contract is full-time and fixed term for 9 months. The closing date for applications is 19 June 2026. Recruitment support is managed by Katrina.
