Role Overview
AZOROM is seeking a Project Engineer for a contractual engagement with ESB, an organisation managing several hydroelectric power plants across rivers Shannon, Lee, Liffey, Erne, and Clady. The candidate will be pivotal in leading projects that improve fisheries assets supporting ESB's Sustainable River Strategy (SRS), focused on enhancing river ecosystems and fish populations while advancing a Nature Positive Approach along waterways.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee engineering projects end-to-end including conceptualization, design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and final handover.
- Define and control project parameters such as scope, technical specs, scheduling, budgets, and risk management.
- Ensure timely, cost-effective delivery aligned with quality and performance objectives.
- Conduct technical assessments, facilitate tendering processes, select contractors, and manage contract awards.
- Supervise site contractors and conduct site inspections.
- Evaluate method statements, risk assessments, and health and safety documentation prior to project commencement.
- Maintain project documentation and drawings systematically.
- Coordinate delivery efforts among hydropower stations, contractors, and station personnel.
- Comply rigorously with health, safety, environmental, and quality regulations and policies.
- Champion a robust safety culture during all project and contractor activities.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil Engineering or a closely related field.
- Proven track record in successfully managing engineering projects.
- Strong grasp of project management methodologies.
- Familiarity with health, safety, and environmental legislation and standards.
- Outstanding communication skills suitable for engaging stakeholders and drafting reports.
- Proficient with MS Office and engineering/project management software.
Preferred Background
- Experience in power generation, utility sectors, or regulated industry environments beneficial.
Additional Requirements
- Valid full driving license with access to a vehicle.
- Willingness and ability to travel across Ireland for site visits and meetings.
Work Location and Schedule
Based at ESB’s offices at 27 Fitzwilliam, Dublin, the role involves frequent business travel to hydroelectric stations on the Liffey, Lee, Erne, and Shannon rivers for on-site contractor supervision and coordination.
Standard working hours are 8 hours per day, Monday through Friday.

Anticipated start in June 2026 with a contract duration of 18 months.
