About Smalls
Smalls is a distinguished direct-to-consumer (DTC) brand specializing in premium cat food and cat lifestyle products. With a commitment rooted in the belief that cats matter and deserve food that truly reflects that, Smalls crafts fresh, human-grade cat food. Over eight years, the company has developed a brand as thoughtfully designed as its products.
Role Overview
We are seeking a Product Manager responsible for overseeing how new customers discover, assess, and purchase Smalls products. This role uniquely blends aspects of product management with marketing expertise. You will own the entire conversion funnel experience, continuously optimize it through rigorous experimentation, and focus on customer segments and experiences beyond mere funnel stages. In our lean team, flexibility to contribute to platform improvements and other high-impact projects is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Fully manage and optimize the conversion funnel from initial site visit to first box delivery by identifying friction points, crafting hypotheses, implementing enhancements, and fostering sustained new customer growth.
- Lead a dynamic experimentation program with a prioritized pipeline of A/B tests and landing page experiments, rapidly shipping iterations and analyzing outcomes to understand success factors.
- Collaborate closely with marketing to refine tracking, attribution, pixel implementation, event accuracy, and MarTech tools, focusing on designing personalized experiences based on behavior data and customer feedback rather than just funnel progression.
- Contribute to the evolution of Smalls’ commerce model by expanding purchasing options beyond subscriptions towards one-time purchases and other commerce pathways.
- Tackle high-priority challenges across platform and internal tooling by scoping needs quickly and driving end-to-end execution in partnership with engineering teams balancing speed, quality, and maintainability.
- Maintain comprehensive ownership over CRO activities—including onsite experiences and landing page testing—alongside MarTech tooling and e-commerce purchase paths.
Candidate Profile
- Proven expertise in A/B testing with a hypothesis-driven mindset.
- Sound understanding of marketing signal infrastructures such as attribution systems, pixels, and event quality to enable improvements rather than workaround solutions.
- Experience in running effective CRO programs including landing page testing and solid knowledge of e-commerce fundamentals like product listing pages (CLP), product detail pages (PDP), and checkout processes.
- Quick learner who makes informed decisions with incomplete information and thrives on broad responsibility rather than being overwhelmed by it.
- Strong project execution skills demonstrating the ability to deliver outcomes, not just plans.
- Background in digitally native retail environments with strong digital product experience as opposed to big tech companies.
- Preferred qualifications include subscription DTC experience, proficiency with Shopify, SQL and analytics tools (Heap, Segment), and expertise in personalization or segmentation.
Team and Reporting
You will collaborate extensively with Marketing on tracking, attribution, and MarTech, and with Engineering on technical scope decisions balancing speed, quality, and maintainability. Reporting is to the Senior Director of Product. This is an individual contributor position without team management responsibilities, designed for those desiring ownership and meaningful impact rather than personnel oversight.
Benefits and Culture
- Mission-focused company dedicated to improving cats’ lives.
- People-first ethos valuing work-life balance with respect for personal time.
- Data-driven decision-making culture balanced with willingness to act decisively.
- Competitive compensation ranging from $155,000 to $185,000 annually.
- Comprehensive benefits package including fully paid health, vision, and dental insurance.
- Four-day work week and unlimited paid time off.
- Fully remote team operating across the US with periodic department and company retreats.
- Monthly supply of free cat food products.
