Premises Assistant / Handyperson

Role overview

You will be joining an established organisation that provides building services in an educational setting. In this Bristol-based role, you will be part of a small caretaking team responsible for the smooth day-to-day running of the school site. The work is hands-on and varied, combining planned and reactive maintenance, security tasks, porterage, and cleaning. You will also help prepare the premises for assemblies, meetings, and extracurricular activities, and you will respond to emergencies in line with school procedures.

Shift pattern and working arrangements

The role follows a 6:00am to 3:00pm Monday to Friday schedule. Flexibility is required, including rotating early and late shifts, availability for evening events, and occasional emergency call-outs.

Requirements and experience

• A strong working understanding of health and safety rules, along with some knowledge of COSHH
• Comfort using basic computer systems
• Previous building maintenance or facilities experience is helpful, though not essential
• Experience with HVAC systems is useful but not mandatory
• Experience working alone and taking responsibility for tasks independently
• IOSH Working Safely certification, or a willingness to obtain it
• Enhanced DBS clearance, which is mandatory for the role
