About the Role
The Portfolio Operations Manager position offers a fully remote work opportunity near a client's location such as Austin, TX; Westlake, TX; Denver, CO; or Phoenix, AZ. This role is a contract engagement lasting 12 months and requires expertise in managing lean-agile portfolio operations and value realization frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
- Support and operationalize enterprise-wide benefits realization frameworks by tracking, validating, and reporting value measures effectively.
- Collaborate with business and technology teams to define hypotheses on value, key performance indicators, and outcomes to measure impact.
- Perform value measurement processes that tie delivery outputs directly to business results, ensuring consistency and accuracy of value data across tools such as Clarity and BI reporting platforms.
- Execute and continuously optimize Lean-Agile portfolio workflows including intake, demand management, prioritization, and execution tracking.
- Maintain and improve portfolio operating standards, procedures, and templates while acting as an expert resource on portfolio processes and user adoption.
- Facilitate prioritization activities by preparing data-driven insights and trade-off analyses, assist teams in defining and refining Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) aligned with strategic themes.
- Convert portfolio-level strategies into actionable execution plans and measurable metrics.
- Develop and keep up-to-date dashboards and reports illustrating value realization, delivery performance, and progress against strategic goals, providing insights to leadership and governance bodies.
- Drive continuous process improvements through identifying inefficiencies in workflows, data capture, reporting, and tool usage.
- Support changes in portfolio practices by preparing training materials, guidance documents, job aids, and establishing Communities of Practice to promote adoption.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with governance teams and data departments to ensure overall portfolio success.
Qualifications and Experience
- 5 to 8+ years of experience in Portfolio Management, PMO, Value Management, or related fields.
- Hands-on experience with Lean-Agile methodologies, portfolio operations, and advanced reporting tools like Power BI or Tableau.
- Competence in process design to maintain business integrity and mitigate risks.
- Proven ability to manage complex, interrelated projects and programs effectively.
- Familiarity with enterprise project and portfolio tools such as Clarity, Rally, Jira, or equivalents.
- Experience with benefits realization frameworks and OKR modeling.
- SAFe certification or similar portfolio management training is preferred.
- Strong analytical, facilitation, and communication skills capable of synthesizing complex information and influencing diverse teams.
- Demonstrated leadership in driving strategic initiatives, process improvements, and operational excellence.
Compensation and Additional Information
