Part-Time Museum/Historic Site Interpreter

Position Overview

The Department of State (DOS) invites candidates to apply for the role of a Museum/Historic Site Interpreter at the Cooch’s Bridge Historic Site located in Newark, Delaware. This is a casual, seasonal, part-time position responsible for engaging the public through tours, educational programs, research, and support of daily museum operations. The role entails playing a key part in the transition of the Cooch’s Bridge site from private ownership to a public historic site.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver thematic tours, lectures, and seminars tailored to visitor knowledge and interests, incorporating interactive activities and historic demonstrations.
• Support program development by conducting research within set guidelines, contributing ideas for site activities, mentoring seasonal staff, and participating in the creation and marketing of research projects, exhibits, interpretive programming, and special events.
• Perform operational support tasks including monitoring visitor activity and property for security, scheduling tours, handling revenue collection, and maintaining visitation, sales, donation, and inventory records.
• Oversee site operations during the supervisor's absence.
• Participate in relevant training sessions, workshops, conferences, and seminars to enhance job performance.

Candidate Requirements

• Minimum of six months experience in recordkeeping.
• Familiarity with museum operations such as collection management, research, exhibit design, preservation of historic structures, or facilitating museum educational programs and tours.
• Knowledge of public relations and communication strategies including managing a positive public image, and engaging specific audiences through media relations, writing, marketing, advertising, and special event promotion.

Employment Details

This position offers a wage of $17.55 per hour under the M37 Salary Plan and FR1 pay grade. Shift hours are from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM including weekends and holidays. The job is categorized as casual/seasonal without pension or healthcare benefits.
