Key Responsibilities

• Approve marketable loans promptly, underwriting according to FNMA, FHLMC, FHA, and potentially USDA/VA guidelines.
• Manage daily loan pipeline and assigned preapprovals.
• Evaluate loans using the four underwriting criteria: Capacity, Credit, Collateral, and Cash.
• Provide excellent service with 24-hour turnaround and ongoing updates to Mortgage Specialists.
• Maintain expertise on investor requirements and overlays for loan programs.
• Analyze and report on loan quality issues and monitor remediation efforts.
• Adhere to ethical, fraud prevention, and confidentiality standards.
• Adjust daily priorities as needed and collaborate with other Underwriters to manage volume.
• Perform additional supportive tasks to help achieve team and company objectives.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or related field preferred; minimum high school diploma or equivalent acceptable.
• At least two years of direct experience underwriting conventional and FHA loans; USDA/VA loan experience is an advantage.
• Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; experienced with electronic mortgage processing systems, Encompass preferred.
• Residency in a state licensed for Equity Resources operations.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, professional interactions with colleagues, vendors, and lenders.
• Ability to interpret complex instructions and work autonomously with attention to detail.
• Capable of managing high-pressure situations and willing to work overtime when necessary.
