Position Overview

The City of Gold Coast is seeking a dedicated Microsoft Fabric Platform Administrator to lead the technical stewardship of its enterprise-scale data and analytics platform. This role offers an exciting opportunity to manage and develop the Microsoft Fabric environment that underpins advanced analytics and data-driven decision making for one of Australia's largest local governments.

About the Team

The successful candidate will join the Enterprise Data & Analytics Platform team within the Chief Technology Office, which is focused on delivering modern cloud technology solutions, including Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, Azure, and Purview. This team prioritizes building secure, scalable, and innovative technology platforms that drive organizational and community benefits.

Role Responsibilities

  • Oversee administration, optimization, and governance of the Microsoft Fabric environment, including managing capacities, workspaces, OneLake, Data Warehouses, Lakehouses, Pipelines, and Power BI services.
  • Configure tenant settings, enforce security and access controls, and maintain governance standards.
  • Continuously monitor platform performance, utilization, and capacity to ensure reliability and efficiency.
  • Assess and implement new Microsoft Fabric features and platform enhancements to maintain cutting-edge capabilities.
  • Develop, update, and manage operational procedures, technical documentation, and support standards.
  • Collaborate with Azure platform teams to integrate networking, security, and operations across cloud services.
  • Work alongside Data Governance and Purview teams to support enterprise-wide information management and compliance objectives.
  • Provide expert guidance and support to internal business units and technical teams utilizing Fabric and Power BI services.
  • Contribute to strategic platform roadmap planning, technology upgrades, and service improvement initiatives.
  • Promote and enforce best practices across the organization's Microsoft data and analytics ecosystem.

Candidate Profile and Skills

The ideal candidate is passionate about cloud data platforms and excels in both technical expertise and stakeholder collaboration. A proactive mindset and curiosity about emerging Microsoft technologies are essential for success in this complex environment.

  • Proven experience administering Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, Azure data platforms, or comparable enterprise analytics technologies.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud platform management, including security, identity management, governance, and operational practices.
  • Expertise in managing platform configuration, access control, and service operations.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric workloads such as workspace administration, capacity management, and tenant oversight.
  • Understanding of enterprise analytics ecosystems, data services, and self-service reporting platforms.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication abilities to effectively engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in IT, Computer Science or equivalent industry experience.

  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104)
  • Microsoft Certified: Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate (DP-600)
  • Microsoft Certified: Fabric Data Engineer Associate (DP-700)
  • Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300)
