Role Overview
The Microbiology Department Supervisor will oversee the smooth operation of the microbiology lab, ensuring all testing and equipment upkeep meet stringent GMP, regulatory, and legislative standards. This role involves developing and reviewing testing protocols and environmental monitoring programs, as well as fostering safe laboratory practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day activities of the Microbiology Department ensuring efficient workflow.
- Maintain comprehensive and accurate testing records.
- Supervise calibration, maintenance, validation, and requalification of lab instruments following compliance requirements.
- Ensure laboratory practices prioritize safety and quality standards.
- Design and evaluate microbiological testing procedures for both materials and finished products, conforming to all compliance mandates.
- Analyze environmental monitoring data and update relevant programs accordingly.
- Provide expert technical guidance to internal stakeholders.
- Monitor laboratory and manufacturing processes to identify opportunities for operational improvements.
- Lead projects aimed at generating supportive data for customer and laboratory operations.
- Continuously review and enhance testing methods and laboratory processes for better efficiency.
- Oversee training, development, and performance evaluations of team members.
- Use key performance indicators to assess lab productivity and quality.
- Recommend and execute process improvements.
- Coordinate and represent the laboratory for internal and external audits and ensure follow-up actions.
- Maintain and validate laboratory procedures, including those related to environmental monitoring and equipment sanitization.
- Support projects that align with customer requirements and internal quality initiatives.
- Develop strategies to enhance quality assurance and minimize contamination risks.
- Contribute to new formulation development processes.
- Lead and motivate the team to maintain positive morale and strong productivity.
Qualifications & Skills
- Academic degree in Microbiology or related field.
- Ability to influence strategic and operational decisions.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong planning and prioritization capabilities.
- Proven experience in building and managing effective, high-performing teams.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and collaborative leadership style, leading by example.
- Competence in project and change management methodologies.
