Job Overview
The Mechanical Technician - Maintenance is tasked with handling a broad range of activities involving mechanical installation, repair, and upkeep of machinery, equipment, and fixtures to ensure optimal functionality with minimal downtime. This role emphasizes adherence to Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) standards alongside fostering continuous operational improvements.
Core Responsibilities
- Respond efficiently to mechanical equipment failures and execute preventive, predictive, and scheduled maintenance tasks with little supervision, aiming to reduce production interruptions.
- Evaluate job requirements technically and choose appropriate tools and equipment to fulfill assignments.
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply strictly with safety protocols and plant operational guidelines.
- Use the computerized maintenance system (SAP) to order spare parts, track maintenance jobs, and maintain up-to-date records.
- Monitor recurring breakdowns, suggest, and implement modifications to address underlying issues.
- Detect and report anomalies, initiate repairs, replacements, tests, and assembly of worn or defective components, and coordinate with supervisors for overhaul or parts replacement while maintaining workplace cleanliness.
- Carry out welding and fabrication duties as needed.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to new mechanics to enhance their knowledge of plant and equipment for maintenance operations.
- Actively participate in improving EHS and plant performance through involvement in behavioral excellence activities such as suggestion schemes, 5S, hazard reporting, and peer reviews.
- Support other departments in equipment troubleshooting and repairs as required.
- Enter all maintenance work and manpower information into maintenance management systems accurately.
- Perform daily preventive maintenance, inspections, and checklists in accordance with maintenance schedules.
- Fulfill shift responsibilities collaboratively with technicians, craftsmen, and contractors as designated by supervisors.
- Undertake additional tasks as assigned by supervisors or senior technicians.
Qualifications and Skills
- Diploma in a relevant technical field is required.
- Completion of PEC Craft Training certificate is mandatory.
- A minimum of 3 years' pertinent experience in heavy industry post-Diploma is preferred; PEC training graduates may apply with no prior experience.
- Proficient in spoken and written English.
- Familiarity with maintenance tools and competent computer skills are essential.
- Experience in equipment installation and troubleshooting is desirable.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, manuals, and instructions effectively.
