Role Overview
The Marine Electronics Technician undertakes advanced electrical servicing and repair on yachts, utilizing a mix of power and hand tools. Assignments include wiring, installation, and troubleshooting of various electrical and electronic marine systems, often working with minimal supervision. Targeted tasks must be accomplished on schedule and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
- Install wiring, fixtures, and electrical components such as radar, GPS, antennas, motors, pumps, and switches on vessels.
- Interpret and work from blueprints, wiring diagrams, and circuit schematics accurately.
- Complete electrical circuits and connect communication and electronic systems, then verify functionality using ohmmeters, voltmeters, and similar testing devices.
- Create mounting points by drilling holes in bulkheads and cabins to secure panels and fixtures.
- Diagnose system issues and develop innovative solutions for complex installations.
- Analyze work orders and strategically plan tasks for efficient completion.
- Compile comprehensive lists of required materials for each project.
- Interact professionally with customers as necessary, maintaining strong communication skills.
Requirements
- Possess a High School Diploma or GED.
- Hold ABYC Certification.
- Familiarity with hand and power tools such as drills, saws, drill presses, heat guns, soldering irons, multi-meters, wrenches, and specialized marine electronic testing gear.
- At least three years of relevant work experience in marine electronics or a related field.
