About Halter

Halter is building technology that helps farmers and graziers run more productive, sustainable operations with far less manual effort. Its system replaces many of the limitations of traditional farming methods, helping livestock move calmly and efficiently while reducing dependence on vehicles, dogs, and fixed fencing. The company is tackling a large industry challenge and aims to create real-world impact through a high-performance, ambitious team.

The business is supported by leading investors and is focused on solving meaningful problems at scale. People who join Halter are expected to bring energy, ownership, and a strong commitment to quality.

About the role

This role sits within the Guidance Operations team and is based in Morrinsville, Waikato, New Zealand. The work centres on maintaining and improving digital farm maps that are used to guide livestock across farms and ranches. These maps are created from drone or satellite imagery and are updated whenever on-farm infrastructure changes or something has been missed during the initial mapping process.

You will handle incoming map update requests, make precise edits to features such as fences, gates, troughs, paddocks, laneways, feedpads, barns, and cowsheds, and ensure the digital version of each farm stays accurate. Because the map directly affects how cattle are guided, attention to detail is essential.

Most of your time will be spent at the R&D farm near Morrinsville, where the office is based in a converted calf barn overlooking the farm. You will also travel to Auckland roughly once or twice per fortnight to collaborate with the support team, and you will work closely with the guidance engineering team to make informed decisions on edits.

Key responsibilities

  • Review and action map update requests from farmers through the in-app chat system.
  • Accurately update farm maps to reflect changes to fences, gates, troughs, laneways, paddocks, and other infrastructure.
  • Add new structures such as feedpads or barns when they are identified or reported.
  • Work through complex mapping tasks carefully so the digital map continues to match the real farm.
  • Coordinate with the support team and keep them informed about progress so farmers receive timely updates.
  • Join calls with farmers when needed to clarify changes or confirm map details.
  • Rely on support staff to follow up for additional information when required.
  • Collaborate with guidance engineering to better understand the product and make the right mapping decisions.
  • Maintain high accuracy and consistency even as the volume of edits grows.

What we are looking for

  • Excellent attention to detail and a strong commitment to accuracy.
  • A genuine interest in agriculture and a desire to contribute to the sector.
  • A tech-comfortable mindset with the ability to learn tools and concepts quickly.
  • A practical, hands-on approach and willingness to get involved in farm environments.
  • Strong organisation and the ability to work independently.
  • A structured way of working, with the ability to break larger tasks into manageable steps.
  • Good understanding of farming conditions and everyday farm operations.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills, including under pressure.
  • No prior relevant experience is required; a positive attitude and eagerness to learn are most important.

Why join Halter

  • Work that contributes to meaningful change in an industry that affects farmers’ livelihoods and lifestyles.
  • A fast-moving, high-growth environment where new ideas are encouraged.
  • The chance to solve real problems alongside a talented and driven team.
  • Health insurance to support wellbeing.
  • Six months of fully paid parental leave for primary caregivers.
  • Four weeks of fully paid leave for secondary caregivers, along with other family-friendly benefits.
  • An annual $1,000 self-development budget for personal growth.
  • Wellness leave and unlimited paid annual leave to support rest and recovery.
  • A competitive package that includes salary, benefits, and employee share ownership.
