About Rocket Lab

Rocket Lab is a comprehensive space enterprise delivering responsive launch capabilities, spacecraft design, production, payloads, and satellite components to open access to space. Our Electron rocket is the second-most frequently launched U.S. rocket annually, with over 230 satellites deployed. We are also developing Neutron, a reusable medium-lift launch vehicle designed for larger satellite constellations. Our Space Systems division creates satellites and components supporting critical missions, including those for NASA's Moon and Mars exploration as well as the James Webb Space Telescope.

Role Overview

We are searching for an outstanding Manager for Test and Launch Operations who excels when the countdown reaches zero under global scrutiny. Leading frontline engineering teams, you will oversee essential test and launch tasks for the Electron and Neutron rockets, instrumental in sustaining our leading launch frequency. You'll build and nurture high-performing teams and develop operational structures to streamline complex missions.

Responsibilities and Expectations

This leadership role requires someone adept at balancing stringent safety protocols with agility to sustain our competitive advantage. You will handle regulatory mandates, spearhead continuous improvement initiatives, and set operational rhythm while under industry observation.

Candidate Profile and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronic Engineering, or equivalent.
  • At least 8 years of direct aerospace engineering, test, or launch/flight operations experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years managing multi-disciplinary engineering teams in fast-paced, deadline-driven settings.
  • Practical expertise across fluid mechanics, electrical and power systems, automation, instrumentation/control, and software integration.
  • Proven background in propulsion systems, test engineering, and ground test operations.
  • Deep understanding of launch vehicle and spacecraft systems, with exposure to mission operations.
  • Demonstrated capability to make rapid, critical decisions and resolve anomalies effectively in high-pressure scenarios.
  • Strong track record in motivating and developing engineering teams amid challenging operational environments.

Additional Preferred Experience

  • Hands-on rocket launch operations experience.
  • Experience at launch vehicle test or launch sites.
  • Familiarity with FAA, RCC, NASA, and USAF compliance standards.

Work Environment and Culture

This role demands a high performer who is dedicated and driven, prepared to work beyond typical office hours to make a significant impact on space exploration, national security, and critical infrastructure. Excellence is mandatory as failure is unacceptable. Expect challenging, demanding tasks that require resilience, teamwork, innovation, and solid commitment.

Equal Opportunity and Compliance

Rocket Lab is committed to equal employment opportunities without discrimination of any kind. Compliance with U.S. Government export controls such as ITAR applies to relevant candidates. For New Zealand offices, background and nationality checks are mandatory under ITAR regulations, requiring citizenship or eligibility from specific countries.

Additional Information

Background checks and citizenship eligibility are prerequisites for employment due to ITAR regulations. Applicants unable to meet these requirements may be ineligible. Reasonable accommodations during recruitment can be requested through a dedicated contact for disabilities.
