Manager of Security

Position Overview

The Manager of Security at Aero is responsible for overseeing daily management of the company’s TSA-approved security protocols, ensuring complete adherence across all on-demand and public charter flights. Handling a fleet of more than seven jet aircraft exceeding 12,500 lbs maximum certificated takeoff weight, the role requires stewardship under the TSA Twelve-Five Standard Security Program (TFSSP) in compliance with DOT/14 CFR Part 380 regulations. This position demands enforcing, continually refining, and maintaining security processes such as passenger and property screening, control of restricted areas and aircraft access, threat response handling, and personnel vetting, while acting as the primary liaison to TSA and other regulatory bodies.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and update the TSA TFSSP and relevant amendments ensuring compliance with evolving regulations for both on-demand and public charter operations.
• Maintain regulatory compliance with 49 CFR Part 1544, applicable international aviation security standards including EASA/EU, UK CAA/DfT, ICAO Annex 17 for relevant jurisdictions.
• Serve as principal TSA liaison coordinating inspections, audits, and remediation actions.
• Supervise passenger and accessible property screening at private terminals and operating stations, guaranteeing vendor and staff proficiency.
• Oversee access controls for aircraft, restricted zones, and sensitive information including credential issuance and auditing as per TSA guidelines.
• Lead Ground Security Coordinator efforts ensuring proper designation and training at each flight and station.
• Design, implement, and maintain comprehensive company-wide security training programs encompassing initial and recurrent instruction.
• Manage Security Threat Assessments and criminal history checks, maintaining complete audit records.
• Lead threat response protocols for bomb threats, suspicious items, passenger disruptions, and heightened threat levels.
• Safeguard Sensitive Security Information following 49 CFR Part 1520 standards.
• Maintain detailed security records, generate compliance reports and internal performance metrics.
• Conduct internal audits, drills, and self-inspections promoting continuous security improvements.
• Collaborate with Flight Ops, Maintenance, Experience teams, and external partners to integrate security practices into operations and guest services.
• Support emergency preparedness and business continuity related to security incidents.
• Ensure all security manuals are current, controlled, and comply with regulations.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Minimum five years’ experience in aviation security, law enforcement, military security, or related regulated transportation security roles.
• Eligibility to pass and maintain Security Threat Assessment and Criminal History Records checks.
• Proven interaction with TSA, FAA or similar agencies during audits and inspections.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for policy authoring and personnel training.
• Ability to maintain sound judgment under high-pressure scenarios.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in aviation management, criminal justice, homeland security, or relevant experience equivalent.
• Experience as Aviation Operations Security Coordinator or in security program management for Part 135/121 operators.
• Comprehensive knowledge of 49 CFR Parts 1520, 1540, 1544; TSA TFSSP; FAA regulations Parts 135 and 380.
• Familiarity with by-the-seat public charter models and private-terminal screening procedures.
• Experience managing TSA-approved screening devices and vendors.
• Certifications such as Certified Member AAAE or security/emergency management credentials are advantageous.

Working Conditions

The role requires presence at remote locations, terminals, and airport ramps with availability outside traditional business hours to manage security incidents and support ongoing operations. Travel to operational stations both domestic and international is expected. Physical demands include prolonged standing and occasional lifting.
