Machine Learning Engineer

About the Role

Zof AI is looking for a dedicated Machine Learning Engineer to join its team in Accra, Ghana. This full-time, on-site position is ideal for professionals eager to drive the creation of ambitious AI products within a dynamic, high-performance setting. The engineer will be responsible for hands-on training, fine-tuning, and evaluation of machine learning models that support the company’s verification and quality control systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct training, fine-tuning, and evaluation of machine learning models ready for production deployment.
• Create and maintain datasets including labeling processes and data quality assurance.
• Manage training infrastructure and track experiments systematically.
• Develop applied models that enhance verification and quality assurance features of products.
• Implement rigorous evaluation protocols and regression tests for models.
• Make informed decisions on when to train models from scratch, adapt existing models, or integrate external APIs.
• Collaborate closely with AI and product development teams to integrate models into product features.
• Take ownership of the entire model lifecycle, from data ingestion to production monitoring.

Candidate Requirements

• Proven experience in training and fine-tuning machine learning models.
• Strong foundational knowledge of machine learning principles and evaluation techniques.
• Proficiency with Python and modern machine learning frameworks.
• Experience in building datasets and designing data pipelines.
• Solid software engineering skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
• Adaptable to fast-paced, evolving environments.
• Demonstrated delivery of models into production or substantial applied ML work.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience fine-tuning large language models (LLMs) or handling embeddings at scale.
• Familiarity with frameworks such as PyTorch or JAX.
• Skills in model serving and optimizing inference performance.
• Contributions to publications, competitions, or open-source projects related to machine learning.

Compensation and Benefits

• Monthly salary range from GHS 7,500 to 15,000.
• Equity participation offering meaningful ownership.
